Listen: Before continuing with this post, Da Boss Is Speakin does not condone domestic abuse in any way, shape, or form. PERIOD. I am not skeptical of whether she was badly hurt or if she may have provoked it. Simply put, there is never an excuse for domestic abuse. The skepticism comes from whether the event actually took place or not! Evelyn, I have a heart-felt apology on deck if it is revealed that this is not a ploy but until then… I am not buying it! Excuse me for being the skeptic here, but we ALL have seen this before (circa Fall 2009), when Rihanna gave her heart-felt interview with Diane Sawyer. What ever happened to battered and abused women seeking counseling not media attention? I am sorry but when has it ever been the case that the public eye will leave you to handle your personal matters by doing a public interview? To some extent, the scrutiny is justified. Evelyn is one of the biggest bullies on the show and her relationship with Chad seemed to ONLY blossom on television. We watched their first date, we watched their alone times, we even watched them before getting down… so, of course, there is going to be some backlash.
I’ll be honest, with Chad and Evelyn both keeping mum about this, I even SLIGHTLY considered that this may be real. The second Evelyn showed up on my screen on ABC… nope. Back to doubting. You just faced one of the hardest times of your life, your husband of 41 days (the “love of your life”) just physically assaults you… leaves you bloodied and embarrassed, and you go on NATIONAL TELEVISION and cry? I know what you’re thinking, Evelyn: “if Rihanna can do it, why can’t I?” Well, Rihanna and Chris Brown’s relationship was never in question. We knew they were openly dating and hadn’t rushed getting married. We didn’t watch their first date, or watch them before they …! To be fair, I did call out Rihanna’s publicity-hungry ways AFTER the incident.
In my opinion, this relationship was a joke but more of a joke was the fact that they think they had us played. I would love to read the police report. I mean, my goodness, we even watched Chad get fired! When has that ever happened? With all of this happening, I have one question: Was the “Ev and Ocho” show ever really real? I mean we HEARD about it, and we know it was “CANCELLED” but why have we not seen any promotions for the show before the incident. Promotion for “Chrissy and Mr. Jones” has begun almost a month before its premiere INCLUDING a clip from the show… why is it less than 20 days before the premiere (and before the incident) have we not even seen a commercial or a clip? Was it even going to happen? There is some conspiracy going on and I am not going to easily fall for it. You two HAVE to come harder than that!
Here is a clip from the interview:
And here’s Chad getting “Fired” (peep the dramatic music):
Last night was the premiere of the hyped-up Oprah Winfrey interview with Rihanna. Oprah visits Riri’s homeland Barbados to discuss life, love and fame with the star and is given a personal tour of the island. Well to begin with this commentary, I will say watching this interview did bore me half to death but, sadly, the most entertaining part of the interview was when Oprah started to get into some questions about Chris Brown.
While watching this interview I couldn’t help but think… This isn’t the potty-mouth nymphomaniac we are used to. It was like watching a stripper behave in church. Okay guys, I am going to try not to be so hard on her. Oprah began to ask Rihanna about her Gran Gran Dolly and in her responses, my heart went out to her because you could see that she was really hurt by the lost of her grandma. She actually broke down a couple of times in trying to recount stories about her Gran Gran Dolly. I guess the “Hard” singer is really actually soft. Her softness actually becomes pretty apparent when she gushes about Chris Brown…but we will get to that in a second.
Oprah’s next round of questions delved into who Rihanna really is. She asked how did Rihanna become so comfortable with being sexy and Rihanna’s response was that was “fakes” it. I almost booked my flight to Barbados and called that girl out myself. If Rihanna has been faking this “sexiness” the whole time… I will never believe another word that comes out of her mouth. I would possibly believe that if she was only provocative in videos and songs, but Rihanna’s twitter account lets us know that this raunchiness is not only because “sex sells.”
Now, the hard hitting questioning about CHRIS BROWN. To be honest, this whole part of the interview enraged me and pissed me off ridiculously. When Rihanna confessed that when the incident occurred, she was more concerned with how the media was going to treat Chris Brown and that Chris Brown just needed help, I thought one thing:
Hi, Rihanna?… Ummm, this was your face. If you were more concerned with yourself, maybe this could have been avoided. I am definitely not trying to minimize what happened to Rihanna and I understand someone being selfless but this girl was beaten senseless and her first thought was concern for her abuser? Let’s just attribute that confession to her being so young and not knowing any better. Moving on, Rihanna also admits that Chris Brown was the love of her life and that they are now “close” friends. This is another concept I am going to need some help with: people can forgive but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they need to be in your space. Things began to make more sense when Rihanna admitted that in order to forgive Chris Brown she had to fix her relationship with her father. All my judgement was pushed to the side because I understand how crucial it is for a young woman to have a great relationship with her dad and that relationship is fundamental to who the woman is as a person.
From here, the interview gets a little boring as Rihanna takes Oprah around Barbados and shows Oprah the place she called home for all of her childhood until she was discovered. The interview ends with Rihanna surprising her mother with a large, BEAUTIFUL home in Barbados. Her mother was definitely more happy with the fact that her first house guest was Oprah rather than the fact that she just got a HUGE home courtesy of her daughter.
Conclusion: I definitely went to the interview skeptical about how it would turn out. I do still believe that Rihanna wasn’t being herself and she is a lot more provocative and raunchy than she made it seem. I still think that Rihanna’s comments about Chris Brown were completely asinine but considering that she has had such a rocky relationship with her father, it is understandable. She is just a lost and hurt individual. Despite anything I have said on this blog, though, the b*tch makes great music and she is an artist I hate to love!
R.I.P. Gran Gran Dolly.
WELP! That was quick! The football player formerly known as “Ochocinco” has been arrested today on domestic abuse charges. The story is that Evelyn went…. Evelyn (i.e. CRAZY) when she found a receipt for condoms in Chad’s car. The two got into an argument and Chad uses the biggest thing he could find in the car to hit Evelytn upside her head… HIS HEAD! Yup, ladies and gentleman, the football player with the biggest head (figuratively and maybe literally) HEAD-BUTT his wife.
Man, to think that this relationship was supposed to be a career booster… guess not. I mean I really hope that Evelyn doesn’t become a big nymphomaniac who can’t keep her clothes on now that she’s gotten beaten (refer to Rihanna)… but then again, how often was Evelyn ever clothed. Chad may have been using the “Chris Brown” technique to success; I mean, Chris Brown IS bigger now than he was before he laid hand on Rihanna.
Is this staged? Well, it has been noted that during the first episode of “Hard Knocks”, Chad Johnson “jokingly” told team officials: “I’m going to be arrested this weekend.” Hmm, you really can’t trust these two. The two tied the knot this July 4th and has been making waves ever since. They may be the new era Bonnie and Clyde, stealing the spotlight any chance they get! Well, of course I will keep you posted on this story!
Da Boss Is Speakin is now adding some more shows to the lineup! After some careful consideration and some weeding out, Da Boss Is Speakin will be adding 4 additional shows to the site, in which it will provide updates, recaps, and photos of each episode.
Girlfriend Confidential: LA
I couldn’t get enough of her on “America’s Next Top Model” and now Eva has her own show with her gal pals on Oxygen! This show appears to have its fair share of cattiness and sassiness amongst the girls and I am excited to see what it has to offer. The show, in fact, is supposed to be launched with a similar show, “Girlfriend Confidential: NY” but no word of its developments have been released yet. Don’t be confused by the picture though, Eva isn’t the only one with something going on. Each of these ladies epitomize the word “independent woman”; the cast also includes Nikki Chu (interior and product designer), Denyce Lawton (actress) and Kelly Marie Dunn (talent manager). The new series premieres Monday September 3 at 11pm on Oxygen!
Ev and Ocho
Basketball Wives: LA
Man! September is going to be pretty exciting! Like other shows on Da Boss Is Speakin, these shows will be featured on a probationary status… meaning if the show fails to entertain, I will fail to blog about it! I mean… this is an ENTERTAINMENT BLOG! Why would I blog about something that isn’t entertaining, right?
It has been rumored and finally confirmed during the BET Awards this past Sunday that Lauren London will be joining the cast of “The Game” for season 6 and beyond. This move has been made after the network has chosen to let go of Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall.
Here is my commentary on this entire matter: What success does BET imagines that “The Game” will have after the Davis’ leave? I mean as I stated here, I always tuned in just to check up on the craziness that was Melanie and Derwin’s relationship! The producers or casting directors (whoever is in charge) has really been letting their fans down. To be completely honest, “The Game” has failed at trying to pacify the fact that Kelly left the show by adding Brandy but all that did was make the show awkward. I love[D] Brandy in the 90s but her and Jason would never make a good couple to me. I thought Selita Ebanks was Jason’s new love interest but was sad to find out she was just a fling.
I really hope that casting for “The Game” did not take a look at Lauren London’s work on “Single Ladies” and decide that they just have to have her on the show! Don’t get me wrong: Lauren London is a great addition to “Single Ladies” and her acting skills fits right in with LisaRaye’s, who’s eyebrows seem to be doing the bankhead bounce every time she speaks (am I the only one who noticed?). Her acting also fits in with Romeo’s cameo on the show and the HORRID acting of April’s stripper boyfriend.
I digress. I will TRY to give this show a [slim] chance and may tune into the first episode of the sixth season. Who knows? Maybe BET realizes that it needs to do major damage control and is working towards a massive redemption. What part will Lauren London play? No one knows as of yet but we do know it may be similar to Melanie Barnette-Davis’s and BET is searching for an actor to play her football boyfriend.
Is anyone as bored of Single Ladies this season as I am? I mean, I have been watching the fourth episode, and this whole time I am thinking… DAMN, LisaRaye has a big forehead with that hairstyle. The show has decided to take the same route the show “The Game” has and has filled the episodes with unnecessary and over-the-top DRAMA which is causing a slow, but imminent death. Sometime people just want an episode following the lives of their characters… but when their lives are as drama-filled as Precious’, it becomes boring and redundant.
I’m tired of seeing Keisha and her bald-headed boyfriend of hers go through their back and forth power struggles… the last time I’ve seen them happy was the second episode of the first season. I was excited to see that Val had gone because while she is still BEAUTIFUL, her voice was getting to me. Shelley… well I was done with Shelley after the scene where she busted out her overused toy. The new girl… Well I don’t even know her name and I’ve watched all the episodes with her in it. Like “The Game,” which I will address in a later post, people are starting to tune out the words and just watch the characters, comment on what they are wearing instead.
The first season came out with a promising future for Vh1’s first scripted series (I think it’s the first), however the second season has left me to demand: NEXT!
